I consider myself a super novice ceramicist as of last Christmas, my COVID-19 acquired hobby. While I’ve only ever made unique, one-off mugs and bowls of questionable quality for friends, my future goal is to produce sets, or, at the very least, two mostly identical pieces, that I’d proudly gift to friends and family. I’d rather not continue to start conversations with, “by the way, I made you a better mug this time, so please trash the old one.”
After visiting a friend to see her revamped kitchen (because this is what excites me in my late-twenties now), I truly coveted her complete set of dish-ware, handmade by herself, that fit so well her personality and kitchen theme–I should add that my friend is the perfect west coast gal, complete with her giant monstera plants and handmade everything-you-see, minus perhaps the espresso machine.
Therefore, I have made it my goal to covet my friend’s ceramic skills no more and instead take the noble route of developing my own abilities … of course, with a healthy dose of realistic expectation. I shall be a master-craftsperson in three months.
